A typical day

Normally we come into the office around 8am and start our computers. We then do our administration and look at the news headlines from overnight. Approximately 15 minutes before the market opens we have a morning meeting and discuss the plan of attack for the day and any relevant news. Most markets open at 9am and this is when we start our trading day.
During the day we are in constant communication with the various counterparties we deal with. These counterparties approach us to ask for markets (usually a bid and ask price) and come back on them if there is a genuine interest to trade. We are constantly exchanging information from counterparties to Optiver screen traders and trading with the counterparties based on all available information.
At the end of the day, when most European markets close at 5:30pm our day starts to wind down. We take care of our daily trade administration and usually have brief discussions both internally and with external counterparties about the day's trading.
