Trader
The role of a Screentrader (Market Maker) is to provide bids and offers to the financial market on-screen. When someone places an order to buy or sell an financial product, the majority of the time it will be a Market Maker on the other side providing the price. To be successful, you will need to:
- Be a penultimate or final-year/Honours student or recent graduate
- Have a distinction/high grade-point average
- Have studied or be studying Commerce, Economics, Maths, Actuarial, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Finance or similar field of study
- Possess outstanding numerical & analytical skills
- Enjoy a challenging and competitive environment
Wholesale Trader
A Wholesale trader is responsible for trading in the Wholesale market. Wholesale traders maintain key international relationships, manage large portfolios, make fast trading decisions and trade high volumes over the telephone in the professional trading market. To be successful, you will need to:
- Be a penultimate or final-year/Honours student or recent graduate
- Have a distinction/high grade-point average
- Have studied or be studying Commerce, Economics, Finance or similar field of study
- Possess outstanding numerical & communication skills
- Enjoy a challenging and competitive environment
IT
IT is an integral part of trading at Optiver. We aim to run systems that are the fastest in the market, highly reliable and flexible enough to respond to changing market conditions and business requirements. In order to develop and maintain such high–end systems, we have two IT teams; Development and Operations. Each team is composed of specialists in their field.
Development
Development works with the traders to write software that matches business requirements. Our Developers manage all aspects of the software development life cycle, including requirements gathering, design, implementation, testing, release and production support. These systems cover market connectivity, front-end and server-based trading, risk management, reporting and back office functions. The primary languages our developers use are C++, C# and Python.
Graduate Developers
To be successful in this role, you will need to:
- be a final-year or recent graduate from either a Bachelor, Masters or PhD degree in Computer Science, Business Information System, Software Engineering or similar field of study
- have a strong understanding of O-O design and development concepts
- have some technical knowledge in C++ / C#
Experience in .NET, Oracle, Linux, Network and multi-threaded programming would be highly regarded but is not essential.
Developers
To be successful in this role, you will need to:
- Have 1-3 years commercial programming experience.
- Have excellent programming skills, with a particular focus on object oriented programming
- Experience with all aspects of the SDLC
- The ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and proven experience in a team environment
Experience in .NET, Oracle, Linux, Network and multi-threaded programming would be highly regarded but is not essential.
Senior Developers
To be successful in this role, you will need to:
- Have 3-5 years commercial programming experience
- Have excellent programming skills preferably in C++/C#, with a particular focus on OOP
- Experience with all aspects of the SDLC
- The ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Highly productive and committed to quality
- Play a central role in design decisions
- Proven experience in a senior technical role in a fast paced environment
Experience in .NET, Oracle, Linux, Network and multi-threaded programming would be highly regarded but is not essential.
Operations
The Operations team is comprised of 3 key areas; Application Management, Infrastructure Management (Technical Support) and Service Desk.
Application Management is responsible for first-level support of trading applications, back office functions and company-wide infrastructure. They aim to ensure the business runs smoothly by liaising closely with all business departments. In particular, Operations supports traders, development and the technical support team.
Technical Support is responsible for Optiver’s day-to-day technical infrastructure. The team manages all computers, servers, printers and telephones as well as office and inter-office networks. A key part of their role is to monitor the performance of trading systems to ensure high availability and speed, both of which are crucial for trading.
Together these teams develop and maintain hundreds of applications and processes running daily in Optiver offices, in Europe, The Americas and the Asia Pacific Region.
Application Engineers
You will be responsible for various trading applications with a technical and business focus. This role involves technical troubleshooting, managing application performance and liaising with the end-user regarding requests.
The role requires more than just technical skills, as maintaining and writing documentation pertaining to incident investigation and resolution will also be critical to your success.
Graduate Unix Application Engineers
To be successful in this role, you will need to:
- Be a final-year student or recent graduate
- Have maintained a credit average
- Be studying or have studied Computer Science or Information Technology or a similar degree
- Have a proactive and customer-focused attitude
- Possess a good understanding of Internet Protocol
Some experience in Shell scripting, such as Bash/Perl, would be highly regarded but is not essential.
Unix Application Engineers
To be successful in this role, you will need to:
- A minimum 2 years UNIX administration
- Experience in Shell scripting such as Bash/PERL
- Experience with TCP/IP networks in a UNIX environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven experience in a mid level technical role in a fast paced environment
Unix System Engineers
To be successful in this role, you will need to:
- Have a minimum 3 years experience of UNIX / LINUX System Administration
- Have experience in the following;
- Unix Clustering
- DNS / LDAP / SNMP
- HP EVA Series SAN storage (StorageWorks)
- Storage management
- Systems monitoring
- Have proven experience in scripting such as (Perl and Shell)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Solid knowledge of the Internet Protocol (IP)
- Experience with HP Openview products
- ITIL experience (Foundation level)
