LINUX/UNIX Systems Engineer

Responsibilities
· Handle the day to day administration of the Linux trading infrastructure including: system monitoring, administration, installation and upgrades, and disaster recovery
· Maintain a development environment comprised of Linux and Solaris servers
· Determination of hardware requirements, installation and verification
· Maintain and monitor internal application servers
· Monitor inter-office connectivity to minimize system failures and down time
· Provide feedback and reporting to trading teams
· Performance measuring
Qualifications
· 8+ years of experience in a Linux System administration
· Optiver uses Red Hat Linux, but we will consider the requisite experience level on any UNIX platform. In-depth knowledge of LINUX or UNIX file systems, system and networking commands, and LINUX/UNIX system tools is required.
· Experienced in systems programming (Perl and/or Ruby preferred) and Shell scripting (bash/ksh)
· Possess a working knowledge of the UNIX/Linux security environment: useradd, file permissions and ACLs, SSH, Kerberos, tcpwrappers and network protocols
· Familiarity with DNS/LDAP and/or NIS
· Solid understanding of TCP/IP and UDP
· Systems monitoring experience with any tool, Nagios preferred
· Knowledge of backup systems
· A working knowledge of system configuration tools: eg, Kickstart, Puppet
· Familiarity with rpm and patching
· Strong communication and documentation skills
· Knowledgeable in Windows and Microsoft Office. Familiarity with ticketing and project tracking tools
· Ability to work in a fast-paced, hands-on, market driven environment
· Strong work ethic, adaptable, with a customer driven focus
· Self-starter with the ability to prioritize tasks and carry out projects to completion
· An interest in sharing knowledge and mentoring younger members of the team
· Ability to work evenings and/or weekends (25%)
· Ability to lift 50lbs
