Build Engineer

What you’ll do

The Build Engineer is a specialized role within the development team. You will work with your peers in our other development sites and with your local developers with responsibilities in (but not limited to) the following areas:

  • Source code repositories (currently Subversion), including:
  • General developer usage procedures and guidelines;
  • Authentication and access rights;
  • General issue resolution;
  • Issue Tracking Tool (currently Trac);
  • Automated build process (currently Hudson);
  • Development environment functional Administration;
  • Test environment.
  • For the areas listed above, the Build Engineer is responsible for:
  • Creation/selection and ongoing management of the procedures, standards and tools;
  • Resolution of issues, whether technical or otherwise;
  • Providing education for developers including creating and maintaining documentation;
  • Planning for future growth and changes.
  • The Build Engineer reports directly to the Development Manager.
     

What you'll need

  • At least 2 years commercial experience with source code management for team of at least 10 developers.
  • Commercial experience with build and release management of software projects.
  • Good knowledge of source control systems, currently Subversion.
  • Good skills and experience in the software development life cycle (SDLC).
  • Good technical skills in C++ compilation on Windows, Linux and Solaris, or ability to learn these skills.
  • Windows and Unix scripting: Batch, python, perl
  • Good working knowledge of Windows and Unix administration (XP and RedHat 5)
  • Highly desirable, experience with: MSBuild, bjam, nunit, (jam ant, nant also considered)
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • A university degree.
